New anthology on cultural learning

The series ”Studies in Parallel Language” has now published the anthology ”Cultural Learning” as the 9th volume in the series. The anthology has been edited by Marta Kirilova and Anne Holmen from CIP and contains in all six articles dealing with cultural learning from a number of different angles. All articles are in Danish.

The introduction, with the same title as the anthology itself: “Cultural learning”, was written by Marta Kirilova and Anne Holmen and critically discusses the acquisition of intercultural competences in a second language context seen from a dialogical perspective.

The article “Intercultural learning. Discourses on knowledge in the communication between ministry, researchers and immigrants” is by Karen Risager. Taking the project “Learning and integration. Adults and Danish as a second language” as her point of departure, Risager focuses on knowledge discourses with regard to adult immigrants’ intercultural learning.

Uffe Kasper Rasmussen has written the article “When Danish-ness gets on paper”, which  looks at how the concept of being “Danish” is articulated in the teaching material for foreigners on the last modules of Danskuddannelse 2 and 3, especially regarding the concept of culture.

In “Can Nana contribute to the cultural understanding with adult second language learners? – an analysis of the school parents meeting in the DR series Nana”, Kristine Rode Larsen investigates how the Danish TV series Nana can contribute to the development of knowledge of Danish cultural and societal issues among adult participants in second language learning.

Karen Risager deals with some of the aspects experienced by researchers when they work with informants whose language competences are different from their own in the article: “The multicultural research process”. This article is also based on the research project: “Learning and integration. Adults and Danish as a second language”.

In the article: “To promote Danish culture abroad”, which completes the anthology, Julie Valvik uses a questionnaire sent out to associate professors working abroad as her starting point for an investigation into different approaches to the promotion of Danish culture when focusing on cultural understanding and identity.
