The CIP series 'Studier i Parallelsproglighed' (Studies in Parallel Language Use) is published as part of the peer-reviewed series 'Københavnerstudier i tosprogethed' (Copenhagen Studies in Bilingualism), which is published by the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Copenhagen.

All except two volumes (C6 and C7) are available for free download on this website. Go to the description of the book to find the download link. Printed editions of volume C6 and C7 can be acquired by contacting CIP's secretariat via email or in person during business hours.

In "La traduction automatique", Daniéle Eychenne examines Danish primary school students' use of translation technology in their French lessons. The publication is based on a comprehensive study of students' knowledge of and experiences with different translation tools. The study shows that students are experienced users, but that they are rarely guided in their use by their teachers. Studies therefore also point to the need for didactics in this area and further training for language teachers.

Becoming More Danish than Danish Instructors

 According to the latest language policy of the University of Copenhagen (from 2021), scientific staff with international backgrounds are expected to be able to contribute to teaching in Danish after 3-6 years of employment. This thesis focuses on how international staff experience and practice this requirement. Overall, the analysis shows that both students and employees distinguish between Danish spoken as a first language (by "native speakers") and Danish spoken as a second language (by "non-native speakers"), and that the prevalent "native speaker" ideology is embedded in and reproduced through the interaction between instructors and students. This leads in the thesis to a discussion of how the ideology affects the employees' position as subject instructors.

This collection of articles contains reflections from a group of university lecturers about language teaching during the first phase of the corona lockdown in the spring of 2020. The lecturers express a range of frustrations and describe a number of significant problems with the practical and pedagogical switch to online teaching. They share many observations: first and foremost, their concern for the relationship between the lecturer and the students, and between the students themselves, but they also note how the forms and nature of communication change in a virtual space. This has profound pedagogical ramifications, especially when language constitutes both the objective and the means of the teaching. The six lecturers, who are all experienced lecturers at the University of Copenhagen, share their experiences first-hand and offer valuable advice for future online courses.

Since 1991, an anthology has been published every ten years focusing on the status of languages in Denmark. What is unique about the articles is that they all contain Danish language researchers’ views on how they believe language will change and develop over the next ten years. This year, for the first time, there are also contributions from Greenland and the Faroe Islands, written by researchers with Greenlandic and Faroese as their first language respectively. These contributions cover a wide range of linguistic areas in the Kingdom and, to varying degrees, are spiced up with assessments and predictions about the future. The purpose of the project ‘The future status of languages’ is to highlight an important aspect of this rich linguistic heritage: the desire to make a difference for the better. A book launch and seminar were held on 5 November 2021 at the Department of Nordic Studies and Linguistics.

In 2015, the Nordic countries took in a greater number of refugees than in the previous period. Many of these refugees were young people who had started university courses or had university-entry qualifications. Norway, Sweden and Finland launched special academic bridge-building programmes to help qualified refugees transition to higher education. This publication describes the Norwegian and Swedish experiences and revisits experience gained from a similar Danish bridge-building programme 15 years ago.
