Workshop: Introduction to teaching in Danish

Have you recently started or are you soon going to start teaching in Danish, and do you feel you need some preparation to help you feel more confident with using Danish as the language of instruction?

Then this new tailor-made course is for you. The course consists of three intensive workshops that will help you:

- present and describe your course, both orally and in a written course description.

- structure your teaching clearly by using meta-language and academic vocabulary related to teaching, and by familiarizing yourself with language used to describe academic skills such as analyzing, presenting an argument, clarifying, etc.

- give and receive feedback as a key element of your teaching and use strategies to check understanding, including listening comprehension and pronunciation.

The workshop will be offered in both the Spring and Autumn semesters. This Spring's workshop will take place via Zoom on three Fridays in May and June from 10:00-12:00. See information on the Autumn workshops.

These workshops will be conducted by one of our Danish academic language consultants, Katja Åraisin Laursen, who has been with CIP since 2012.

Katja has worked with academic writing and teaching in Danish as a second language for 11 years, and has extensive experience in developing and implementing Danish courses aimed at UCPH academic staff.

About the focus of the course, Katja says:

"We have identified a need at UCPH to support and enhance international staff’s ability to teach in Danish. In the University's new strategy and language policy, one vision is that more international staff will be able to teach in Danish in the future."

The workshops are based on each participant's own teaching experience and expectations of teaching in Danish, as well as on the specific course(s) that the individual participants will be teaching.
