New recommendations from NCFF – strengthening foreign languages in the education system

At the end of June, the National Centre for Foreign Languages (NCFF) will publish its final and comprehensive recommendations on how to strengthen foreign language subjects across the Danish education system.

The recommendations are based on more than seven years of work at the centre and therefore constitute an empirically well-founded contribution on where and how efforts can be made in the ongoing work to secure and develop foreign language subjects in Denmark.

NCFF will be formally dissolved at the end of June 2026, meaning that the centre itself cannot work to implement the recommendations. There is therefore a need for others to take up the baton and continue the work.

For this debate event, we are therefore inviting a number of relevant stakeholders from the education sector to engage in a professional discussion of NCFF’s recommendations.

Please note that the debate will take place in Danish.

The event will begin with a presentation of the recommendations and their background by NCFF’s directors, Mette Skovgaard Andersen and Hanne Wacher Kjærgaard. This will be followed by a moderated discussion of the recommendations with a number of invited guests.

The debate event will take place on Thursday, 18 June 2026, at the University of Copenhagen, South Campus, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Coffee will be served during the break, and sandwiches and refreshments will be offered after the event.

Please register no later than Friday, 12 June at 3:00 p.m. via the the Danish website. Here you can also stay updated on the programme.
