English and Globalisation in Denmark - A Changing Sociolinguistic Landscape

Who is using English in Denmark? What is English used for? How good are Danish users at English?

In a project funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark (DFF), a research group consisting of Dorte Lønsmann (Department of English, Germanic and Romance Studies, ENGEROM), Janus Mortensen (CIP), Jacob Thøgersen (Department of Nordic Studies and Linguistics) and Kamilla Kraft (ENGEROM) is going to investigate the use of English in Denmark. The use and prevalence of English in Denmark changes over time. The media and forms of communication we use, just to name a few factors, influence the use of English in Denmark. Nevertheless, it has been long time since a major study of the extent to which English is used in Denmark and the role the English language plays in Danish society has been undertaken. This project sets out to examine these issues, with a particular focus on identifying how the use of English interact with societal changes. The project runs from 2021 to 2025.
