Language Use at UCPH on inclusion of international employees
In episode 4 of Sprogbrug på KU / Language Use at UCPH Katja Årosin from CIP talks with her three guests about how, as a manager or colleague, you can welcome and include new international colleagues.
Kris and Daniel share their personal stories about arriving at KU and their own initiative to learn Danish. They talk about the challenges of becoming part of a workplace where it is sometimes hard to find someone to speak Danish with, and where at other times it’s difficult to join conversations when they take place exclusively in Danish.
But the conversation is also about all the things that work well in terms of linguistic, academic, and social inclusion. For example, clear language expectations and offers of tailormade Danish courses, inclusion in conversations and academic practices, as well as invitations to social events such as a Danish lunch club.
Guests:
Kristine Cecile Harper, Department of Science Education, Daniel Hershcovich, Department of Computer Science, and Lisa Storm Villadsen, Department of Communication, all from UCPH.
The podcast is produced in the KU Studio in collaboration with René Lindekrone Christensen from UCPH and Morten Bolvig. The podcast will be released 26 September at the UPCH podcast site (find link to the right).
