International students get a good start at the University of Copenhagen

The University Post at the University of Copenhagen has just published the article First friends, first phrases: Soft landing at the University of Copenhagen, about the introductory course for exchange students: Copenhagen Past and Present with Danish Language. The course is offered every semester by the Saxo Institute and CIP for international students from all over the world, helping them get a good start in Copenhagen and at UCPH.

The history course gives international students a solid introduction to Copenhagen and Denmark from the Middle Ages to the modern welfare state. Along the way, the students are brought together through excursions to Roskilde and a canal tour of Copenhagen, where they experience the city and its history up close.

In addition, the students are introduced to the Danish language and to topics about everyday life and study life in Denmark. They learn basic phrases in Danish and the small language classes are a place where there is room for the students to ask questions that naturally arise when arriving in a new country. During the course the students make new friends and networks across nationalities and academic disciplines at UCPH.

The students, who come from all over the world, are full of enthusiasm. Making friends is an important part of the course and many students describe the course as a warm welcome and an important introduction to Copenhagen and the university.
