Debate on Food Waste and Language at Madens Folkemøde
The event was organized by Janus Mortensen from CIP and Kamilla Kraft from ENGEROM under the title "The Role of Language in Combating Food Waste - a debate on food waste in language." They focused on how we communicate about food waste in both a historical and contemporary context, and how this knowledge can contribute to combating food waste. The panel participants came from tForbrugerrådet Tænk, FødevareBanken and Stop Spild Lokalt. They discussed why and how the language we use about food waste shapes our relationship with both food and fellow human beings, and how it can be used in efforts to combat food waste.
The debate event is part of the project 'Combating Food Waste - interaction between values, choices, and habits,' which is funded by the VELUX FOUNDATIONS. The purpose of the project is to investigate how we talk about food waste, as this topic is highly debated in recent years. How do we express ourselves, what linguistic images do we use, what comparisons do we make, and what emotions are associated with our language about food waste? Are there patterns in the way we talk about food waste? And can we use knowledge about these linguistic patterns in the fight against food waste?
