New director at CIP
As of 1 January 2024, Professor Janus Mortensen takes over the position of centre director at CIP from Anne Holmen, who is retiring at the end of 2023.
Janus Mortensen has been employed at CIP since 2015, first as an associate professor in language policy and, since 1 December 2022, as professor of multilingualism and language policy. One of the first things Janus intends to do as the new centre director is to appoint his colleague Slobodanka Dimova, Professor of Multilingualism and Language Assessment, as deputy centre director. Thus, CIP will have a brand-new management team in place for the following three-year period.
The appointment committee, headed by Dean for the Faculty of Humanities Kirsten Busch Nielsen, unanimously appointed Janus Mortensen as the new director of CIP, based on his ideas for strengthening CIP’s role as a research-supported resource centre for the whole of the University of Copenhagen.
In addition to continuing CIP's existing activities supporting both language teaching and research, particular focus will be placed on promoting research into and teaching of Danish as a second language. Another important focus area for CIP will be the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) for language and language use at the University of Copenhagen.
Janus Mortensen has the following remark concerning his new position at CIP:
CIP is a unique research and resource centre, and I look forward to helping develop the centre's activities over the next three years. Two important landmarks that have had an impact on how we will work with internationalisation at the University of Copenhagen over the next few years are UCPH's language policy from 2021 and the ongoing political changes to the current educational landscape, involving, for example, plans to increase the intake of international students. At CIP, we look forward to working with both internal and external partners in carrying out this task.
