Strengthening German and French in higher education

For the period 2022–2025, CIP has implemented a number of initiatives focusing on German and French as ‘additional cometencess’, i.e. measures to strengthen language competences in German and French for students outside the traditional language programmes at the University of Copenhagen.

Funding for these initiatives was provided through an extraordinary grant for ‘Strengthening German and French in higher education’, from the 2021 Finance Act (in Danish).

In planning the individual initiatives, CIP has focused on developing initiatives for students across the various faculties at the University of Copenhagen and has reported to a coordination committee throughout the process.

Following agreement with the committee, CIP was given the opportunity to extend the completion of certain initiatives into 2025 and to include Spanish in one specific initiative.

CIP’s work builds on previous projects focusing on languages as an additional skill (see right-hand boxes) and ties in with CIP’s research in the fields of language, didactics and learning.
