Projects with a ficus on language for specific purposes
Projects with a focus on language for specific purposes
All students need to be able to discuss topics in their field with others, and often across geographical and linguistic boundaries in connection with a study abroad semester, fieldwork, an internship or, ultimately, an employment opportunity. In these contexts language is often considered an additional competence rather than an integrated part of one’s field. Language is an additional qualification that allows a person to reflect on his/her chosen field, apply his/her knowledge, engage in an international academic discussion, or manage socially while abroad.
Language-related initiatives that fall into this category are guided by the specific function fulfilled by the language in question and can be realised as group activities within a certain academic field or be based on individual needs. The language activities can take many different forms, from short intensive courses to courses that span an entire semester, and they can be realised as electives or elements integrated into existing courses. The Language Strategy has completed six projects aimed at language for specific purposes.
- Spanish language for fieldwork
- Chinese language in relation Chinese healthcare
- Arabic for fieldwork
- French for Political Science
- Development of language instruction and assessment for outbound exchange students
- Digital foreign language learning resources for students
